About Kathy Mirkin

Kathy Mirkin writes fiction and poetry for children and adults.
Her works-in-progress include:

KIKKI KLEIN IS NOT DOOMED TO BE A DUCK:  Kikki longs to become the star dancer in her ballet school's annual recital, but she'd rather be goofing around with her friends than practicing. Even the clumsiest dancers can have prima ballerina dreams! (young reader, ages 7 to 10).

JUST ONE MORE STORY, MRS. ROSENBERRY: Ten-year-old Satia finds connection and hope in her relationship with a librarian when she may lose her home as her neighborhood starts to gentrify (verse novel)

SILLY SADIE: Meet a funny and endearing new character whose inspired silliness helps even the most serious to have fun.(Picture book)

BOOGIE MOUSE STOMP: This rhyming and counting story stars Mouse who learns the secret of how to overcome his fear of the dark night. (Picture book)

Kathy's writing awards include:  Highlights Foundation Writers' Workshop at Chautauqua complete scholarship and the SCBWI-Illinois Becky Mabry "Go For It" Words in the Woods scholarship. She has participated in the Iowa Summer Writing Festival,  the Highlights Foundation Founders Workshop on Verse Novels and other writing workshops and retreats.

Kathy has worked as a publicist arranging client coverage in premier media like The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, National Public Radio and major television networks. She has publicized writers, musicians, financial experts, library leaders, and many more leading professionals, including investor Warren Buffett, pianist Alfred Brendel, and blues man David "Honeyboy" Edwards. 

She is an active member of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and a past publicity co-chair and past program co-chair for Off Campus Writers Workshop (OCWW).
